Born:September 30, 1975 in Paris, France
Biography:At once earthy and modern yet effortlessly capable of projecting the aura of a glamorous, silent-era film starlet, French actress Marion Cotillard has achieved fame in her home country with substantial roles in such high-profile blockbusters as the Taxi series, and such critically acclaimed arthouse hits as Jean-Pierre Jeunet's A Very Long Engagement.

Supporting Actress 2008 Oscar:Tilda Swinton

Winner for "Michael Clayton"
Born: November 15, 1961 in Scotland, UK
Biography:Known throughout Britain for her idiosyncratic performances and long-time association with the late filmmaker "Derek Jarman", "Tilda Swinton" is nothing if not one of the more unique actresses to come along during the second half of the 20th century. Born in London on November 5, 1961, Swinton attended Cambridge University, where she received a degree in social and political sciences. While at Cambridge, she became involved in acting, performing in a number of stage productions. Following graduation, Swinton began her professional theater career, working for Edinburgh's renowned Traverse Theatre and the Royal Shakespeare Company.
In 1985, Swinton began her long collaboration with "Derek Jarman", both as a friend and fellow artist. She made her screen debut in his "Caravaggio" (1986) and appeared in every one of the director's films until his death from AIDS in 1994.

Best-Actor 2008 Oscar:Daniel Day-Lewis

Winner for "There Will Be Blood"
Born: April 29, 1957 in London, England, UK
Biography:An actor whose on-screen intensity is rivalled only by his off-screen intensity, "Daniel Day-Lewis" is one of the most acclaimed and least understood performers of his generation. The stories surrounding his complete immersion in his roles are legendary, from his insistence on remaining in a wheelchair between takes for "My Left Foot" to his refusal to accept manufactured cigarettes in favor of rolling his own, 18th-century style, while filming "The Last of the Mohicans".
Day-Lewis' highly cerebral approach to his work may emanate in part from his background. Born in London on April 29, 1957, he was the son of Poet Laureate Cecil Day-Lewis and actress "Jill Balcon". The influence of the cinema was particularly strong on his mother's side: she was the daughter of Sir "Michael Balcon", the one-time head of Ealing Studios. Educated at various public schools, Day-Lewis took an early interest in acting

Supporting Actor 2008 Oscar:Javier Bardem

Javier Bardem win Supporting Actor 2008 Oscar, 'No Country for Old Men'
Born: March 1, 1969 in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria
Biography:Possessing a chameleon-like ability to disappear into his characters, which frequently renders him unrecognizable save for his piercing eyes, it's no wonder that Javier Bardem chose to pursue a career as an actor given his family's long history in show business. Always hesitant to play the same type of character twice, the very foundation of Bardem's career is his remarkable ability to so immerse himself in character that audiences never even see the actor. Each role is a transformation that occurs both mentally and physically, and Bardem's hesitance to embrace celebrity culture and make a conscious effort to break into the American market has only served to make him more alluring to stateside filmmakers. Born the youngest member of a family of actors in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Canary Islands, Spain, in 1969, Bardem's first role came at the age of six with the film El Picaro (aka The Scoundrel)

Thirlby subsequently tackled supporting roles in such productions as David Gordon Green's explosive small-town drama Snow Angels (2007) and Jason Reitman's seriocomedy Juno (2007), then teamed up with Lili Taylor and X-Files stalwart David Duchovny for Vincent Perez's supernatural thriller The Secret (2007). ~ Nathan Southern, All Movie Guide

Johnny Depp Born:June 9, 1963 in Owensboro, KY
Biography:Initially known as a teen idol thanks to his role on "21 Jump Street" and tortured pretty-boy looks, "Johnny Depp" survived the perils of adolescent heartthrob status to earn a reputation as a respected adult actor. His numerous collaborations with director "Tim Burton", as well as solid performances in a number of critically acclaimed films, have allowed Depp to carve a niche for himself as a serious, if idiosyncratic performer, a real-life role that has continuously surprised critics intent on writing him off as just another photogenic Tiger Beat casualty.
Born in Kentucky and raised in Florida,Depp had the kind of upbringing that would readily lend itself to his future portrayals of brooding lost boys. After his parents divorced when he was 16, he dropped out of school a year later in the hopes of making his way in the world as a musician. Born in the Paris suburb of St. Maur, Paradis grew up to become an international sensation as a pop singer and actress, particularly in France, where she has a success level akin to that of "Madonna" or "Cher" in the United States.
In 1986, at a mere 14 years of age, Paradis had her first big hit in Europe when composer Franck Langloff and lyricist "Etienne Roda-Gil" wrote a song for her entitled "Joe Le Taxi." The following year, she released her first album, M & J, which played to great success and broadened her exposure overseas. She went on to appear in her first film, See more.....

Biography:One of the crop of bright-eyed, dewy-skinned young actors to attain teen idoldom and a regular paycheck during the late 1990s, "Jessica Alba" closed out the century as one of Hollywood's more promising new talents. Born in Pomona, California, on April 28, 1981, Alba, whose father was in the Air Force, moved with her family to Biloxi, Mississippi, when she was an infant, but she eventually moved back to California nine years later. It was back in California that she embarked on an acting career; having been in love with the idea of acting since she was five, Alba took her first acting class at the age of 12, and nine months later, she landed her first agent.

Anne Hathaway Born:
November 12, 1982 in Brooklyn, NY

Hailing from Brooklyn, where she was born November 12, 1982, Hathaway became involved in the theater at a young age, and as a teenager performed with the Barrow Group, a prestigious New York theatre company. She did her first industry work in the short-lived but critically praised TV series "Get Real" before auditioning for Marshall, who, according to legend, cast the actress as the accident-prone princess after she fell off a chair during her audition. Kelly Preston Born: October 13, 1962 in Honolulu, HI
Biography:Actress "Kelly Preston" was first seen on a national basis in the last-billed role of a general's daughter on the weekly 1983 TV drama "For Love and Honor". She established herself as an agreeable comedienne in such films as "Mischief" (1985) and "Secret Admirer" (1985), then became lost in the turgid melodramatics of "52 Pick-Up" (1986). Her big movie break was supposed to have been her co-starring stint with "Arnold Schwarzenegger" and "Danny De Vito" in "Twins" (1988), but the role was too nondescript to engender any enthusiasm. Nonetheless, Preston persevered, delivering great performances in such offbeat fare as the 1993 made-for-cable movie "Arthur Miller's The American Clock". In the latter half of the 1990s, Preston's perseverance began to pay off, first with a substantial role in "Cameron Crowe"'s widely acclaimed "Jerry Maguire". She continued to do comedy, appearing in "Nothing to Lose". See more.....
John Travolta Born: February 18, 1954 in Englewood, NJ
Biography:During the last few years of the 1970s, "John Travolta" reigned as one of the most towering stars in Hollywood, second, perhaps, only to Burt Reynolds and Robert Redford as a top male box office draw. After a string of hits in films, on television, and on the radio, Travolta emerged as a seemingly unstoppable cultural phenomenon, defining tastes in music and fashion while dominating innumerable columns of newspapers and tabloids. Like so many other celebrities, Travolta's initial fame proved short-lived, however, and by the mid-1980s the media and the public alike began to regard him as an outmoded relic of his era.

Which is apropos because her new horror movie, The Eye, was dead on arrival too.
